I make an effort to not spend much time on social media or Youtube; I try my best to be as productive as possible.
However, I often find myself there anyway. Recently, I watched a video about Spiderman. The clip showed the ending of one of the films where Peter Parker conversed with the characters that were previously his closest friends.
For one reason or another, everyone in his life has forgotten who he was; their memory was wiped clean of him. Spiderman was all alone.
In movies, I think the life of a superhero is often depicted as one of solitude and loneliness. And one can image why.
But this video really made me reflect on the life of Christ; how lonely and difficult His life must have been.
We often only see Jesus as God and marvel over all His works. But He was also a man. A man that endured 33 years of an absolute incredible devotion to righteousness.
It brings me to tears to think about how Christ knew His purpose here. He wouldn’t marry. He wouldn’t have children. He wouldn’t grow old and have a family like so many of us. He came to Earth to be the Savior of man at any cost and lived a life than no other person could endure.
I don’t have the words right now, but I just feel such anguish over the heartache Jesus must have felt here. I get so wrapped up in my own dilemmas and relationships that I overlook what He gave for us.
Over the past few days I’ve been disgruntled over my singleness and longing for a spouse. But I feel such an overwhelming guilt when I think about how no one lived a more lonely and heart-wrencthing life than Jesus. He was betrayed, beaten, disowned, and murdered for the very people that despised Him. And the kicker is that He did it all knowingly.
Yeah, Spiderman is cool, but there is no superhero like Jesus Christ. When you’re feeling down, just remember that no one knows your anguish better than your Creator; He endured more than we can ever imagine.
Stay strong my friends.
Sincerely,
A wretched saint
